WHAT IS LYMPH DRAINAGE THERAPY?

Lymph Drainage Therapy is a hands-on method of working with the body’s lymphatic fluid system as developed by French medical doctor Bruno Chikly. Through gentle wave-like motion, constant contact is maintained between the practitioner’s hand and the client’s skin to improve the lymphatic fluid circulation, stimulate the immune system and regulate the autonomic nervous system to create improved healing, a deep state of relaxation and reduction of pain.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Through light hands-on palpation and specific anatomical knowledge the rhythm, quality, depth, and direction of flow of the lymphatic fluid are detected. The movement and circulation of the lymph fluid is mapped. This allows the practitioner to determine the optimal route for draining stagnant lymphatic fluid. Small, wave-like movements are used to stimulate the contraction of tiny muscles located along the lymphatic vessels. These movements also emulate alpha brain waves to induce a reduction of stress.

Drainage of accumulated toxins is improved and nutrients can be delivered to tissue allowing it to regenerate. The body is able to detoxify and improve healing through the efficient stimulation of the lymphatic fluid. This is because fluid stagnation or toxicity is not impeding the body’s healing processes.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

• Cleanse and heal tissue – reduce swelling and scarring

• Improve recovery from injury or infection

• Detoxify the body and improve immune function

• Alleviate chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia

• Improve conditions like sinusitis, acne and allergies

• Relief of pain: muscular, sinus and headache

• Create a state of deep relaxation to relieve stress, insomnia and depression.

WHAT HAPPENS IN A LYMPH DRAINAGE THERAPY SESSION?

Lymph Drainage sessions utilize no massage oil or lotion and are between 30 and 60 minutes in length, depending upon the situation being addressed. Clients can often remain dressed. Sessions can be done focusing on specific areas of injury, such as a broken bone or sprain, sinus or headache troubles, or areas of pain or swelling. Full body sessions and lymphatic facials are available. Sessions of one hour are recommended for optimal deep relaxation and stress reduction. Clients report these sessions to be more relaxing and healing than standard massage. Lymph Drainage combines well with CranioSacral Therapy (CST). Prior to and after a Lymph Drainage session please drink lots of water to help the flow and drainage of toxins.

HOW MUCH IS NEEDED?

For most people who want to fully experience the benefits of Lymph Drainage, I recommend a session every week for three weeks and then once every four to six weeks or as needed for ‘tune-up’ and maintenance. For more specific therapeutic purposes or more serious cases Lymphatic Drainage can be received on a more frequent basis.
